Mangels Home Made Chocolates

History of Mangels Chocolates

William Mangels arrived in America in 1929, and established his original store in Brooklyn NY. He later sold the Brooklyn store and in 1945 Mr. Mangels moved to Chester, NJ where he purchased a twenty-five room house known back then as the Bud House. The Bud House stood on a 28-acre parcel of land adjacent to route 206, now the Chester Springs Shopping Center. He began making and selling candy from the house. In 1959, Mr. Mangels built the store on Route 206 and Maple Avenue, adjacent to his property. Robert and Sandra Bisk purchased the business in 1971. Bob Bisk was born into the chocolate business. He grew up over the family candy store, and learned the art of confection from his father and grandfather. Bob and Sandra brought three more generations of experience and recipes to Mangels, and through hard work and good business sense, they made Mangels a landmark business. Michael Looney purchased the business from the Bisks in December of 2003. Michael is adding a new generation to Mangels, but will carry on the same dedication to making candy as their predecessors. The principles and integrity that Bob and Sandra gave to this business will be forever engraved here at Mangels.
